Crazy Sexy Anxiety

The woman in this photo is Kris Carr. She’s been living with a rare, untreatable Stage IV cancer since 2003! She is also the author of the best selling book, Crazy Sexy Cancer. In 2009 when I read her book, I suddenly realized that our society conditions us to believe we are victims of our medical conditions. If you don’t believe me, take a moment to think about how you react to someone who tells you they have cancer. What if we decided to stop thinking of ourselves as victims, and start thinking of ourselves as crazy sexy? What would happen?

Kris Carr created a powerful cognitive model for challenging the victim identity associated with cancer. I believe the cognitive model she created as well as the behavioral changes she made are responsible for her tumors shrinking without treatment and for her remaining healthy for 17 years.

In 2009 after recognizing the value of her work, I began implementing it with all of my clients. Her cognitive model is NOT just limited to cancer. It can be applied to all diagnoses both medical and psychiatric.

One of my favorite crazy, sexy stories was of a client diagnosed with C. difficile colitis. You might be wondering what C. difficile colitis is. Basically it is a condition in which you have chronic diarrhea. The first time I told my client that his diarrhea was crazy sexy he thought I was crazy! Luckily, he was open minded. His medical doctor had referred him to me because of anxiety due to the C. difficile colitis. My client had struggled with this disorder for almost seven years. However, in less than six months, his anxiety and diarrhea had improved significantly without medication. His doctor asked me what I had done. I said, “We went crazy sexy on his diarrhea!” The doctor’s silence was priceless.

I also crazy sexy’ed up non-medical infertility. How many babies do you think have been born? I also crazy sexy’ed up migraines. Do you think those clients still have migraines?

If you meet me in counseling, you should know I’m secretly thinking how to crazy sexy up your thoughts about your anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, panic attacks, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and any medical condition causing you anxiety.

Whatever it is, it is crazy sexy in my opinion.  You are not a victim, you are a powerful person that can turn the tables on this experience by changing your thoughts and behaviors. All of my crazy sexy clients have made significant improvements managing and overcoming their mental health symptoms. Nearly everyone’s anxiety has gone into remission or shrank away like Kris Carr’s cancerous tumors.

Instead of being a victim, Be a pioneer. Be powerful. Be strong. Why not look at anxiety as something you can thrive with.
